Principal Description

Lena Nanushyan holds a preventive medicine physician qualification from Yerevan State Medical University after Mkhitar Heratsi, where she studied between 1992 and 1998.  Her further specialization from 1998 to 2000 was under the Organization of Healthcare Program at the National Institute of Healthcare after S. Avdalbekyan of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia. She earned her Master of Public Health Degree from the American University of Armenia (2003 - 2005).

She started her career at the Health Policy Department of Ministry of Health of Armenia in 2002. Between 2002 and 2006 she taught at the School of Healthcare Management. 

Between 2003 and 2012 she served as an expert for the Standing Committee on Health under the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia. 

From 2012 to 2013 she held the position of Head of Foreign Relations Division of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia. 

From 2013 to 2018 she was the Country Coordinator for the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDs. 

Mrs. Lena Nanushyan was appointed as Deputy Minister of Health on June 4, 2018. 

Subsequently, she was appointed as the First Deputy Minister of Health by the Decree of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia on January 26, 2021.

Lena Nanushyan participated in a number of courses, conferences, and study visits; in particular, on human rights protection, fight against HIV/AIDS, maternal, child and adolescent health care as well as on health and social system topics, etc.
