Togo: Health Emergencies Preparedness and Response StrengtheningThrough support from the Pandemic Fund, Togo has trained a total of 6,936 individuals across a wide range of sectors critical to pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response. These include health professionals, community health workers, veterinary officers, agri-food specialists, youth, and civil society actors. Training topics ranged from outbreak investigation and field epidemiology to food safety, One Health coordination, and risk communication.
Notably, in the human health sector, 1,270 community health workers in Savanes and Kara were trained to advocate for vaccination, while 1,200 students and 1,200 community actors participated in outreach and dialogue sessions.
In the animal health sector, 745 professionals were trained, including 250 community animal health workers, 195 rapid response team members and 15 national trainers. Trainings were conducted as faculty, community or event-based sessions focused on zoonotic and transboundary disease surveillance (terrestrial and aquatic species), food safety, and ecosystem health.
This comprehensive capacity-building effort reflects Togo’s commitment to a multisectoral approach, integrating human, animal, and environmental health systems. It also demonstrates the catalytic impact of Pandemic Fund investments in empowering local actors, enhancing surveillance, and promoting sustainable health system resilience.
