Background

The $4.5 million Pandemic Fund grant supports a partnership between the Cabo Verde Ministries of Health (MOH), Finance, Agriculture and Environment, national universities, and the World Bank (as the Implementing Entity) to strengthen the country’s national health security through a One Health approach. The grant builds on an additional $2 million in co-financing and $13 million in co-investment from these partners.

Landlocked in the South Asia region—a region considered one of the global hotspots for emerging infectious diseases—Bhutan is highly vulnerable to disease outbreak threats of pandemic potential. Despite the country’s ongoing health and socio-economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, critical gaps persist in disease surveillance, detection, and coordination response.

Senegal

Gnagna Lam is Senior Advisor to the Minister of Finance and Budget of Senegal. In this role, she coordinates Senegal’s engagement with the World Bank Group, overseeing the country's engagement with the Group’s institutions and overseeing the structuring and negotiation of strategic projects. She also oversees the energy sector, where she acts as Board member and Audit Committee Chair in several state-owned companies, and leads high-level financing negotiations. 

Rwanda

Prof. Claude Mambo MUVUNYI is the Director General of Rwanda Biomedical Centre. He has more than 10 years of technical, managerial, and strategic experience and expertise in the field of clinical and public laboratory medicine with special focus on clinical microbiology, laboratory systems and service strengthening, and global health security.

Armenia representing Europe

Lena Nanushyan holds a preventive medicine physician qualification from Yerevan State Medical University after Mkhitar Heratsi, where she studied between 1992 and 1998.  Her further specialization from 1998 to 2000 was under the Organization of Healthcare Program at the National Institute of Healthcare after S. Avdalbekyan of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia. She earned her Master of Public Health Degree from the American University of Armenia (2003 - 2005).

Guyana

The Honourable Dr. Frank Anthony, Minister of Health has been practicing medicine in Guyana since 1993.  In addition to being in clinical practice over the years, Minister Anthony taught at the University of Guyana as an adjunct professor in Public Health and consulted for several organisations in this field. From 2006 to 2015, he served the people of Guyana as the Minister of Culture Youth and Sports, and as the shadow Minister of Health from 2015 to 2019.  

China—Saudi Arabia

Mr. Saud M. AlBarrak is the Director General of International Financial Institutions at the Ministry of Finance (MoF) in Saudi Arabia. He also serves as the Saudi Deputy-Deputy in the G20 Finance Track and acts as the lead representative at the International Financial Architecture Working Group. Prior to this role, he held the position of Director of the Multilateral Development Banks and Funds Department at MoF.
